Blockit
In 2019, Beaumont Health announced a partnership with Blockit for scheduling and referral management solutions and are pleased to announce the official launch of the Blockit platform this week.
For the initial roll-out, Blockit has engaged with Beaumont Medical Group and affiliate physicians in Primary Care, Otolaryngology, and Orthopedic Surgery. Beaumont Urgent Care is implementing Blockit on a similar schedule. In the near future, Blockit will also be used by the Physician Referral Service and Emergency Departments and inpatient units for discharge appointment scheduling. We will provide further communications about Blockit expansion services as they become readily available.
As a reminder, the Blockit solution enables real-time scheduling to be performed at the time of service during a patient’s visit. Blockit also allows providers to:
- easily send and receive referrals through Blockit’s platform to any receiving or sending provider’s Electronic Medical Record
- acquire secure direct communication via Blockit’s chat feature, reducing phone calls
- track patient referrals and appointment status in real time
Blockit has been in the market for a few months now, working to engage our affiliate physician community. They’ll continue to reach out to practices to create awareness and determine how Blockit can improve the care patients receive. We encourage you to learn more about Blockit. FAQ
What is Blockit?
Blockit is a referral and scheduling solution that integrates with many different Electronic Medical Records, allowing for one platform where providers and patients can view all Beaumont providers and schedule appointments. When a patient schedules an appointment with a provider via Blockit, it is integrated within that provider’s EMR, and automatically updates the provider’s schedule to include the appointment. The patient also receives an email with appointment information.
Why is Beaumont implementing Blockit?
Today, when a patient needs a physician office appointment, the burden is put on them and their caregivers to identify their needs, find a provider, and schedule an appointment. As Beaumont strives to meet its vision of being the leading high-value care network, it’s important to remove barriers and make it easier for patients to access and navigate Beaumont services. With Blockit, when a patient leaves a Beaumont-affiliated facility, such as an urgent care or ED, they will leave with a scheduled appointment in-hand. This removes the burden for patients trying to navigate the complexities of healthcare and improves patient follow-through for important follow-up appointments. It is Beaumont’s vision that all healthcare providers join Blockit so that any patient leaving a Beaumont facility has the ability to schedule an appointment directly with a provider of their choice.
What are the benefits of using Blockit for Beaumont and its patients?
- book appointments in real-time at the point of care
- efficiently guide patients through coordination of care with real time patient referral and appointment tracking
- easily send and receive referrals through Blockit’s platform to any receiving or sending provider’s EMR
- permit secure direct communication between providers, with attachments, via Blockit’s chat feature
- obtain insights through analytics on referral activity
Where is Beaumont planning to implement Blockit?
Beaumont is implementing Blockit in Beaumont Medical Group’s primary care, otolaryngology and orthopedic service locations in November. Beaumont Urgent Care will be implementing Blockit on a similar schedule. Once implemented, if it is determined during a patient’s appointment that follow-up care is needed, or that a patient does not have a primary care provider, the provider and patient will have the option to use Blockit to schedule an appointment while the patient is still at the practice. Beaumont also plans to implement Blockit on its website to offer online scheduling, in its Physician Referral Service, in its Emergency Departments, and is evaluating additional areas of opportunity.
How will patients use Blockit to locate physicians?
All Beaumont providers who currently appear on doctors.beaumont.org will automatically have profiles in Blockit. When a patient uses Blockit, they will filter the list of providers based on the patient’s insurance, the proximity to their home, specialty (if applicable), and appointment availability. If a patient prefers a provider who is not contracted with Blockit, the patient will receive an email with the provider’s contact information and asked to follow-up on their own. If a patient selects a provider who is contracted with Blockit, they will be able to view open appointments and select and schedule an appointment immediately.
Will all Beaumont patient referrals and appointment monitoring be managed through Blockit?
It is Beaumont’s vision that all appointment scheduling and management will be performed through BlockIt. Beaumont views this initiative as a major accomplishment related to its goals of becoming a leader in patient and family-centered care. Beaumont’s hope is that all Beaumont-affiliated physicians will join Blockit so Beaumont patients have the greatest selection of providers and access to meet their health care needs.
How much does Blockit cost?
Blockit rates for independent practices may vary, however the fees posted on BlockIt’s webpage tend to be less than $100 per month. Beaumont encourages interested practices to review Blockit’s public FAQ webpage for pricing and more information.
